How does the Jif® brand support food allergy initiatives?

Of course, the Jif® team wants to be sure kids with peanut allergies are not exposed to peanut butter. We recommend parents always read the ingredient labels to be safe. 

The Jif® brand also supports outside initiatives dedicated to peanut allergy research and awareness. For example, the brand has long partnered with The National Peanut Board, supporting peanut research and education initiatives. Part of their work focuses on peanut allergy awareness and education, including resources for parents, educators and anyone who cares for children.

What is the Jif® brand's relationship with The Peanut Institute and the National Peanut Board?

The Peanut Institute is a non-profit organization that supports nutrition research and develops educational programs to encourage healthful lifestyles. The JM Smucker Company (the parent company of the Jif® brand) has been a partner with The Peanut Institute for over 22 years and has pledged more than $1 million dollars to the organization since 1996.

The National Peanut Board is a farmer-funded national research, promotion and education program. The partnership helps bring consumers awareness and education related to peanut allergies.

Can dogs eat Jif® peanut butter?

Jif® peanut butter products do not contain the ingredient xylitol. We suggest speaking with your veterinarian for the best feeding advice specific to your dog.

What is the difference between Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter and Simply Jif® Peanut Butter?

Our Simply Jif® Peanut Butter has a fresh-roasted peanut taste with low sodium* and 33% less total sugar** than Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter. *17g fat and 3.5g saturated fat per serving. **Simply Jif® Peanut Butter contains 2g total sugar per serving. Regular Jif® Peanut Butter contains 3g total sugar per serving

Is Jif® peanut butter gluten free?

The vast majority of our peanut butters are certified gluten free. We encourage you to look for gluten free claim on the back label of your jar for the most accurate information.

How long does Jif® peanut butter last?

Unopened and stored in a cool, dry area, Jif® peanut butter will last about two years (refer to the “Best If Used By” date). After opening, you can keep Jif® peanut butter about three months on the pantry shelf. If unopened, Jif To Go® Peanut Butter and Jif® Natural Peanut Butter Spread will each last one year (refer to the “Best If Used By” date).

How old is my jar of Jif® peanut butter?

We place a “Best If Used By” date on every jar. On most jars, the “Best If Used By” date is printed in white ink on the back of the jar under the universal product barcode (UPC). In some instances, the date will be printed in black ink directly on the plastic jar above the label.

What happened to Jif® Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread?

We still offer Jif® Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread 60% Peanuts! It has a fresh-roasted peanut taste and 25% less fat than peanut butter.

What is Jif® To Go peanut butter?

Jif To Go® peanut butter is the same great Jif® peanut butter as in a jar, but available in portable packaging. Jif To Go® peanut butter comes in a sealed cup that’s easy to pack and just the right size for taking peanut butter on the go!

Is Jif® peanut butter Kosher?

Why does Jif® Natural Peanut Butter Spread say "No need to stir" on the label?

Jif® Natural Peanut Butter Spread is made from five ingredients and stabilized with palm oil to prevent oil separation. However, since it is made from all natural ingredients, minimal oil separation may be possible.

Are Jif® peanut butter jars recyclable?

Our jars are made of Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE-1), and the lids are made of Polypropylene (PP-5). This material is recyclable if there is a recycler in your area that accepts this material. Discard seal, rinse jar and replace lid before recycling.

Do I need to refrigerate my Jif® peanut butter?

Jif® peanut butter does not require refrigeration.

Is it safe for dogs to eat Jif® peanut butter?

Why does Jif® taste different from other brands of peanut butter?

You are able to taste the JifferenceJif® has an unmatched consistency, flavor and texture that is proprietary to the Jif® brand. 

Is Jif® peanut butter vegan?

Some of our products do contain ingredients from animal origin, such as our Jif® Natural and Honey, so our products are not considered vegan at this time.

Is Jif® peanut butter vegetarian?

Yes, Jif® uses ingredients sourced from plants, and peanut butter is known to be a great source of plant-based proteins. 

What is palm oil and how is it sourced?

Jif® Natural Peanut Butter Spread contains palm oil, which is derived from the fruit of a palm tree. Palm oil is an alternative stabilizer. We recognize and share the concerns related to palm oil sourcing and the environment.
